Printable PDF: 347 Stainless Steel Alloy Data Sheet
347 alloys are stabilized stainless steels which offer as their main advantage an excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion following exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range from 800 to 1500°F (427 to 816°C). 347 alloys are stabilized by the addition of columbium.

Additional Information on 347 Stainless Steel
There are many different types of steel. It is imperative that you use the right one for your needs. Here at Elgiloy Specialty Metals Hampshire Mill, we understand this. That is why we communicate with each of our customers in enough detail to ensure that they get the right steel. Stainless steel 347 may be the one for you.
Type 347 stainless steel is typically used in the aviation industry, including constructing airplane exhaust stacks and parts for jet engines. Besides the aviation industry, stainless steel 347 can be used to make common parts such as tubing, collector rings, fasteners, and flexible metal hoses.
Stainless steel 347 is stabilized austenitic, Columbium-Tantalum-Chromium-Nickel steel. The Columbian and Tantalum work together to prevent any Chromium carbide being formed.
347 stainless steel is a non-magnetic and it is particularly good in two scenarios. One, it performs well when used for any parts that require welding but cannot go through the annealing process. And secondly, it comes into its own when used for any part that is utilized in temperatures ranging from 800 up to 1600 degrees Fahrenheit.
You can find stainless steel 347 in a wide variety of forms. It comes in three types of the coil form – strip, ribbon, and foil. It also comes in four types of the wire form – square, round, profile, and flat.
347 stainless steel has nine notable properties. They are .08% Carbon, .045% Phosphorus, .030% Sulfur, 2% Magnesium, about 18% Chromium, about 11% Nickel, and .75% Silicon.
The Columbium/Tantalum mix is 10Xc up to 1 percent, and there is also Iron to balance out the properties and help make this stainless steel effective.
Minimum tensile strength is about 75 KSI and the steel has a yield strength of at least 30 KSI. Elongation is at least 40%.
Hardness is at a maximum of RB 92. This type of stainless steel can only be hardened by cold working. Stainless steel 347 can be welded effectively in one of two ways: the resistance method or common fusion.
